Are you proficient with PACT weapon?

You’re automatically proficient with the pact weapon you create, regardless of the type of weapon you choose. That’s not the case if you choose to turn a magic weapon into your pact weapon.

Are Warlocks proficient with weapons?

I have the pact boon “pact of the blade” which allows my character to create a pact weapon, so a melee weapon. My question is…can my character say, use a greatsword? I was told large weapons such as that can impose disadvantage, but with this pact, I have prof in whatever weapon is summoned. Does it just balance itself out?

What is the benefits of Pact of the Blade instead of just using the “normal” weapons available to a Warlock (assuming I want to use Melee weapons at all)? You are proficient with it. While a warlock is only proficient in “simple weapons” you can create any melee weapon and you are proficient with it.

Can you summon a bow with the Pact of the blade?

You need the Improved Pact Weapon invocation, otherwise the Pact Blade is limited to melee weapons. This is not correct. Improved pact weapon lets you summon long bows, short bows, light and heavy crossbows. It also makes your pact weapon +1 AND lets it be used as your spellcasting focus.

Can you pick any weapon for a pact weapon?

You can pick any melee weapon for a Pact Weapon and still be proficient with it — this is your route to getting a martial weapon as a straight-up Warlock.
