You can control your mount, in which case your mount cannot make an attack, or. You can opt to leave it independent (and controlled by the DM) in which case it can attack, but may do things you don’t expect.

The Find Greater Steed spell in D&D summons a spirit that can take various forms, including that of a flying mount. The spell doesn’t require you to have a saddle of any type to enjoy the use of your magical steed.

The Peryton (from the Monster Manual) is normally a medium-sized creature. If it’s summoned by find greater steed does it reshape and become large, or stay medium size? I am not sure due to this part of the wording. Your summon a steed that takes on a form that you choose: griffon, pegasus, peryton, dire wolf, rhinoceros, or saber-toothed tiger.

The confusion comes from the text from “Find Steed” that says the creature you summon can only be a mount, but “Find Greater Steed” doesn’t say that the summoned mount can only be used as a mount. I’m pretty sure it’s up to the DM on if the wording should be carried over or not. What are your thoughts?
Why do you need to summon a steed in RuneScape?
Again, that doesn’t seem right to me–it looks like the intent of summoning a steed is just to give the PC greater mobility–but if that’s so, I don’t know what I can point to as a rule to show the player that this is the case. Does a creature serving as a mount retain all its special abilities?

Find greater steed is just newer and has clearer wording. However, the rules for “Mounted Combat” say a mount can only take the Dash, Disengage, or Dodge action in the PHB, pg. 198 I believe. Does that only apply to a domesticated mount?
