The target’s game statistics, including mental ability scores, are replaced by the statistics of the chosen beast. It retains its alignment and personality. You keep your personality but lose your mental statistics when you do this though, so you need to be cautious.

When true polymorphed creature dies, does it revert to its original form? The True Polymorph description says: Creature into Creature. The transformation lasts for the duration, or until the target drops to 0 hit points or dies. If you concentrate on this spell for the full duration, the transformation lasts until it is dispelled.
