In the screenshot here, it’s revealed that 646 zombies weigh roughly the same as one elephant. Assuming a weight of 10,000 pounds for an average elephant, that means that the average zombie head weighs about 15.5 pounds. That’s pretty heavy for a head!

For skeletons, low strength and decent dexterity means that medium armor is the way to go. Scale mail is a good balanced option, being fairly cheap and boosting their AC up to a respectable 16, or 18 if you give them a shield as well (though that prevents them from using a two-handed weapon like their shortbow).

Of course, this doesn’t say whether undead are inherently proficient or not with any armor or weapons you give them. That’s probably a DM decision. If you’re turning dead party members into undead minions or something, they might retain their proficiencies from when they were alive.
