Can cantrips be used in combat?

As I understand it, cantrips can be cast “at-will”. That’s fine inside of battle, but outside of it, things begin to get extremely broken.

Can you ready a cantrip?

When you ready a spell, you cast it as normal but hold its energy, which you release with your reaction when the trigger occurs. To be readied, a spell must have a casting time of 1 action, and holding onto the spell’s magic requires concentration. It explicitly states that you can use this to cast a spell.

Can Wizards copy cantrips?

You can swap a wizard cantrip with another after a long rest so there is no need to add it to your spell book. You have the basic formula for all cantrips and just make the minor manipulations as needed.

Do Wizards know all cantrips?

The Wizard class learns 5 Cantrips by 10th level, and does not learn any more by leveling. The section on adding spells found to the spellbook specifies that that “When you find a wizard spell of 1st level or higher, you can add it to your spellbook”, which sounds to me like it is specifically excluding cantrips.

Are cantrips infinite?

The corresponding text on page 52 under the Cantrips heading states that these are the only cantrips you know (at least, from the bard class), and that they must come from the bard’s list of 0th-level spells. But you can cast the ones you do know unlimited times, yes. This is described under Cantrips on page 201.

Can a wizard learn a new Cantrip from a scroll?
