User Info: premier024. Yes, give them health potions.. you will see the swerly yellow heal light around them here and there. As far as I can tell they are not to good at it, i gave Lydia about 20 and she still “yielded” knelled in alot of battles.. but sometimes she took them.

User Info: IamI3rian. Either way, they only use ‘bought or found’ potions. You can’t brew them yourself for followers. Also, fortify one handed won’t do anything for them, even if they do in fact drink it.
Can you give your follower weapons in Skyrim?
No you can’t. Companions have preferences. ex: J’zargo prefers staffs to swords. I tried giving him an incredibly powerful sword, bow and shield but he ended up rushing down enemies with his bare hands instead.

No, they will not use poison. However, you could try poisoning a weapon and giving it to your companion if you need it in a tougher fight. Otherwise, you’re stuck with the normal, unpoisoned weapon your companion uses.

If its set and forget, like Conjure X Atronach or fireball, then yes. Almost certain my followers have used the atronachs scrolls liberally, though I prefer to sell scrolls.

A simple test, give your follower some store bought potions and take them to a bandit camp. See what happens. I’ve found that if you do any kind of trade, the follower tends to equip their preferred gear. Hard to say how that would affect potion use.
How to use follower potions and poisons in Skyrim?
This mod aims to change all that, allowing followers to use their potions intelligently, and keep them in the fight longer. They will also use any poisons you give them, whihc can make a life-saving difference in a scrap. No special procedure – install normally with a mod manager (I recommend Mod Organizer ), or manually if that’s how you roll.
Can a follower drink a fortify skill potion?
To use these, the follower must also be holding a bow/crossbow, shield, one-handed weapon or two-handed weapon respectively. In the vanilla game, simply drinking a Fortify (skill) potion (like Fortify Marksman) does not have any effect for Followers (grr!).
Can you use a follower potion on a dog?
By default, animal followers (eg dogs and horses) are excluded, as they don’t tend to have potions. Or inventories. Or, y’know, opposable thumbs.. If you definitely do want your animal to swig potions with the rest, there is a means to do this (see the Compatibility section below).
