Absolutely yes. This is as much a rule as no-crit on skill checks. The DM calls for rolls when a task is non-trivial and has a chance to pass/fail with a consequence. It’s a little hidden in the skills chapter, but it is there.
Can you critically fail a check?

If you roll a 10 or higher on your check, the character you are helping gets a +2 bonus to his or her check, as per the rule for favorable conditions. (You can’t take 10 on a skill check to aid another.)
