How do widow mines work?
The Widow Mine is a unit that is built in the Factory. They burrow and act as a proximity mine. When a unit gets too close, the mine shoots a missile at that unit, dealing huge splash damage (even to your own units). The mine is invisible when burrowed but can be killed easily with detection and the right units.
Does blinding cloud work on widow mines?
As Hugo mentions, the Widow Mine “attack” is an auto-cast ability. I tested this in-game; Blinding Cloud will not save you from their husband-killing ways.
How are widow mines affected by Splash Damage?
Widow Mines are not affected by the splash damage of friendly Widow Mines (be it the Widow Mine’s own attack or another) but other friendly units are; the enemy can use fast units to drag the Mine attacks towards Terran’s army. Medivacs picking up units or the fast movement of Stimpacked units is enough to dodge the worst of the spell.
What happens when you unburrow a widow mine?
Unburrows the Widow Mine and deactivates its weapon, allowing it to move. Attacks by launching missiles at enemy ground and air units that get too close. Missiles deal 125 (+35 vs. shields) damage to their primary target, and 40 (+25 vs. shields) splash damage to units nearby. Allows Widow Mines to burrow and activate 3 times as fast.
How many widow mines can you make in a base?
Just moving your Widow Mines on the ground works well once the Protoss player already has 3+ bases up. You can make 6-8 Widow Mines, and send a pair to each base, shift-clicking move and burrow, so they will automatically run there and burrow once they get there.
How long does the Widow Mine cool down for?
Sentinel Missile has a 40 second cooldown. When on cooldown, the Widow Mine has no offensive capabilities. The Widow Mine also no offensive capabilities when it is unburrowed. The video below demonstrates how the Widow Mine works and gives some basic strategies that you can use with this unit:
