Even if someone is invisible, you are aware of its presence. You can see its footprints, hear its movement, feel the breeze it stirs as it moves. This means you can still attack it, but not as efficiently, and it can not suprise you. In game terms, your attack is with Disadvantage, and it attacks you with Advantage.
Can magic missile hit invisible enemies?
Dnd 5e Magic Missle requires you to be able to see the target. PHB, pg 257 “Each dart hits a creature of your choice that you can see within range.” Therefore you can’t target an invisible creature with magic missile even if you know the spot they occupy, since you can’t actually see them.
