Rules as Written: As long as a creature is in the process of casting a spell, you can use counterspell against it. Please note that a general reaction can also be used on any entity’s turn as long as the conditions are met.
Can you swerve counterspell to counter itself?
No. A spell cannot target itself. You can, however, Swerve the counterspell to have it target the Swerve.
Can deflecting SWAT target itself?
Can you deflecting swat a mutate? No, you can only change to a legal target. So it can only be changed to another creature you own. The target must be legal and a creature you own.
Can you counter spell wish?
You are granted the ability to cast the wish spell 1d3 times. So yes, you are actually casting the spell. You are not simply bestowed the ability to make 1d3 wishes, you have to go through the effort of casting. Which means it can be Countered.
Can a copied spell be countered?
Once cast, the copy is a spell on the stack, and just like any other spell it can resolve or be countered.
Can you fork a Counterspell?
Your opponent casts Counterspell and you gain priority again. You can cast Fork now–it will be last on the stack, so will resolve first. You will copy Lightning Bolt; then the copy is put on the stack and resolves, dealing 3 damage; then the Counterspell resolves, countering the original Lightning Bolt.
Can you deflecting SWAT demonic consultation?
Tap the Swamp to cast Dark Ritual, and use one of the three black mana in your mana pool to cast Demonic Consultation and choose a card that is not in your opponent’s library. Then tap the Mountain and cast Deflecting Swat (using the two other mana from the Dark Ritual).
Can You counter dispel magic?
One tried and true way to counter dispel magic is to depend on your wits and strategy rather than a lot of spells. The wizard casting dispel magic will feel quite foolish when he casts dispel magic only to find it has no effect. In the meantime, other members of your party have more spells to keep you alive (healing) and destroy the bad guys.
Can You counterspell a spell-like ability?
A spell-like ability cannot be counterspelled, nor can it be used as a counterspell.
Is counterspell too good for modern?
Counterspell is such an iconic card, and is certainly appropriately powered for Modern. Logic Knot is a much worse version of the card, as is Mana Leak, but where Counterspell will outshine these counterspells is mostly in long, drawn out interactive games where both Logic Knot and Mana Leak go dead.
How does counterspell work?
Counterspell may be used preemptively to prevent the next spell cast by an opponent. When the opponent plays a spell card, Counterspell will activate; the spell will then fail to take effect. Counterspell also prevents the spell from completing its ‘casting’ phase, preventing post-spell casting triggers from activating.
