Can you counterspell an active spell?

Rules as Written: As long as a creature is in the process of casting a spell, you can use counterspell against it. Please note that a general reaction can also be used on any entity’s turn as long as the conditions are met.

Can you swerve counterspell to counter itself?

Is counterspell too good for modern?

Counterspell is such an iconic card, and is certainly appropriately powered for Modern. Logic Knot is a much worse version of the card, as is Mana Leak, but where Counterspell will outshine these counterspells is mostly in long, drawn out interactive games where both Logic Knot and Mana Leak go dead.

How does counterspell work?

Counterspell may be used preemptively to prevent the next spell cast by an opponent. When the opponent plays a spell card, Counterspell will activate; the spell will then fail to take effect. Counterspell also prevents the spell from completing its ‘casting’ phase, preventing post-spell casting triggers from activating.
