Unless a monster specifically has a special quality that says otherwise (and I’m pretty sure there are none that do), you can’t detect ANY monster (including magical beasts, undead, or constructs) with detect magic.

Is the Detect Magic Spell A Level 0 spell?
As a GM for another system considering switching to DnD 5e, I’m super stoked that Detect Magic is not a Level 0 spell. This should prevent spamming and force the player to really justify (to his/herself) risking the spell slot use. For most classes, yes it is more limiting.
