Dogs are eventually going to be implemented in to Starbound as a starter pet. The player is currently only able to aquire them by finding them on planets or catching them in capture pods .
Can you empty Capture pods Starbound?
You cannot recapture monsters yet. You have to have them die and pick up their pod to get them back, or they will just stay where you left them. If you miss with a pod it’s gone. No retries.
How do pets work Starbound?
Capturing critters is a mechanic where the player can catch wild creatures found throughout the game and use them as companions. In addition to Starter Pets the player can tame many types of animals and monsters. Other pets will no longer attack NPCs and villagers, and will only attack hostile monsters or NPCs. Passive monsters must be attacked by the player for the pet to target them.
How do you move the Fluffalo in Starbound?
Fluffalo cannot jump and can only “climb” a single block’s height, so they can be penned in easily with a simple 2-block-tall obstacle. Fluffalo can be moved with the Relocator, but need a space 5 blocks wide for placement.

Critters are small, friendly monsters found on planets. They have a tiny amount of health and cannot be captured using Capture Pods . To “capture” a critter requires a special gun, a Relocator. Using this player can pick critters up and place them again.
How do you catch a pod in Starbound?
Monsters must first be weakened before capture. Pods are thrown in the same manner as the Little Red Ball. If you miss a target, the pod falls to the ground and can be picked up; if the creature is caught, the pod’s light changes from blue to red and you can then pick up the filled pod.
