A: No general rule causes force damage to pass from one plane of existence to another. So even if you can perceive a creature on the ethereal plane, you cannot damage them with force damage.
Can a creature on the Material Plane see someone on the Ethereal Plane?
A creature is on the Material Plane and can perceive someone on the Ethereal Plane using the True Seeing spell. Can that creature cast a spell that only requires that they see the character on the creature in the Ethereal Plane?
Can a spell caster travel to the Ethereal Plane?
Unless the caster has a means to transport their effect to the Ethereal Plane, all spell effects that they create will be in the Material Plane. And since a creature under the effects of etherealness is immune to effects not in the Ethereal Plane they would not be affected by them.
Are there any natural portals to the Ethereal Plane?
Natural portals to the Ethereal Plane are few, although minglings sometimes occur in graveyards and haunted places. The atmosphere of the Ethereal Plane is clammy and chill but perfectly breathable and food carried onto the plane remains edible.
Can a banishment be cast from the Ethereal Plane?
As always it is the DM who interprets the rules of the game. So, banishment cast from the material plane on a character on the ethereal plane would fail.
