I’ve always ruled that it can “fly”. In older editions it had language specifically saying it could move upward. In 5e, it’s not as clear, but it’s never walking nor flying nor swimming. It doesn’t have a speed, it just moves toward the destination, even if the destination is 10 feet straight above you.
