Druids cannot use wands or ranged weapons, and while they can use melee weapons, they do not benefit from them in the same way as other melee classes. You are hitting enemies with your paw and claws, not your weapon. Weapons are only as good as the stats they have on them.

I think “X” is the toggle for melee and throw. Let agree to disagree with anyone who disagrees with me! In the Options menu under “Controls”, you can bind a key to toggle “alternate weapon modes”. I think the default is X, as stated above.

The RAW doesn’t say that a critical hit must be with a weapon attack, it just says “attack roll”. Nor does it say anywhere that spells can’t crit. If it was anywhere, you’d expect it to be in the spellcasting intro or in the spell description itself. Nothing. I think its fair that spells that require an attack roll can crit.

This means if a weapon’s damage is 1d12, then it becomes 2d12 on a crit – but, if a weapon’s damage is 2d6, its damage on a crit is only 3d6. Spells can’t crit, RAW. But if you’re homebrewing, throwing an extra die (of the same type it uses) of damage in there on a spell isn’t going to be gamebreaking.
