The Eldritch Adept feat allows the user (who must be a spellcaster or Warlock) to learn one Warlock Invocation that they meet the prerequisites for. This means that only Warlocks can take an invocation that has any listed prerequisites. However, this invocation can be changed whenever the user levels up.

Invocations are not spells. Some invocations will require a Warlock to expend a spell slot, but some just produce an effect without requiring any Actions or Bonus Actions. The Warlock class table shows how many invocations a Warlock knows per level.
Why is the Eldritch Invocation called one with Shadows?
Well, because the specific Eldritch Invocation is named One with Shadows. If there is a light source and he stays in a specific area illuminated by the light (no more shadows), then there are no more shadows to be one with. Clearly this is not same as the invisibility spell, and should be treated differently.
How does a warlock use Eldritch invocations?
