Arcane Trickster Rogues have a set number of known cantrips and spells of each level. They cannot prepare different spells at each rest. As such, they have no need for a spell book. They can swap a single spell out each time they gain a level.
When can an arcane trickster change their spells?
When you level up, you are allowed to swap out one spell for another, as long as it is limited to the proper school of magic. But the school of magic restriction doesn’t apply when you are replacing the spell you learned at 3rd level.

Are there any transmutation spells for Arcane tricksters?
A quick look at the list of transmutation spells available to wizards (and thus, Arcane Tricksters) reveals that there are a lot of incredibly roguish spells Arcane Tricksters miss out on by being locked out of this school. Feather fall, alter self, and blink, just to name a few.
