Forced movement does not provoke an attack of opportunity. An effect that moves a creature without using their movement, action, or reaction does not provoke an opportunity attack.
Do players get opportunity attacks?
The opportunity attack action is an opportunity action available to all player characters, and is the most common opportunity action. Triggering opportunity attacks is usually called provoking opportunity attacks.
When do you not provoke an opportunity attack?
PHB Ch. 9, page 195, Opportunity Attacks: You also don’t provoke an opportunity attack when you teleport or when someone or something moves you without using your movement, action, or reaction. For example, you don’t provoke an opportunity attack if an explosion hurls you out of a foe’s reach or if gravity causes you to fall past an enemy.
When does standing up from being prone provoke an attack?
Does an action to stand up from being knocked prone generate an attack of opportunity (like it does in some earlier editions), or is it only if the target leaves the attacker’s reach? The Player’s Handbook only says that opportunity attacks are triggered when hostile creatures move out of your reach.
Can a wind spell provoke an opportunity attack?
In contrast, a creature that’s pushed by a gust of wind spell does not provoke opportunity attacks. So, the answer to the question will depend on the whether the ability you are using to force the opponent to move uses their own movement, action, or reaction to do so. If it does, then they provoke an Opportunity Attack, if it doesn’t it doesn’t.
Can You trigger an opportunity attack with gravity?
Falling or getting thrown by environmental effects (gravity, explosions, etc.) These spells or abilities force the enemy to use their own movement, action, or reaction to leave your reach and thus do provoke opportunity attacks. These are only examples and not a complete list.
