The key things are that shadow blade never counts as a pact weapon or as a hex warrior weapon so you can never use charisma with it. This means the hexblade has to use strength or dexterity to attack with a shadow blade and not charisma.
Can a pact weapon be broken?
You can’t affect an artifact or a sentient weapon in this way. The weapon ceases being your pact weapon if you die, if you perform the 1-hour ritual on a different weapon, or if you use a 1-hour ritual to break your bond to it.

I have the pact boon “pact of the blade” which allows my character to create a pact weapon, so a melee weapon. My question is…can my character say, use a greatsword? I was told large weapons such as that can impose disadvantage, but with this pact, I have prof in whatever weapon is summoned. Does it just balance itself out?
Can you summon a bow with the Pact of the blade?
You need the Improved Pact Weapon invocation, otherwise the Pact Blade is limited to melee weapons. This is not correct. Improved pact weapon lets you summon long bows, short bows, light and heavy crossbows. It also makes your pact weapon +1 AND lets it be used as your spellcasting focus.
Can a Shadow Blade be used as a weapon?
You can choose the form that this melee weapon takes each time you create it. You can have your pact weapon take the form of a Shadow Blade (say, a long sword or rapier), but it’s not magical in any way other than that described by the feature (such as being able to overcome resistance to non-magical weapons).
