Unlike most things that provide total cover, wall of force does not conceal the target, but it does obstruct the target, which accomplishes the same thing. Sacred flame gets through the wall because it disregards cover.
Is sacred flame an attack?
Re: What does Sacred Flame do? It is a Divine attack cantrip (cost no spell slots) but, instead of rolling an attack roll, the target must make a Dexterity Saving Throw.
Can you target objects with Eldritch Blast?
Rules as written, eldritch blast can not target objects (same for other spells unless they specify otherwise i.e. fire bolt).
Does Sacred flame give off heat?
No. The spell says it produces fire, which includes the production of heat by definition. The effect looks like a regular flame, but it creates no heat and doesn’t use oxygen.
Can a Sacred Flame Blade be twinned with a twin ice knife?
If you cast a fireball and it hits a window between the caster and the target, it explodes at the window. Sacred flame is an exception, because it ignores all cover, including total cover. Green flame blade cannot be twinned because “target” can mean “anyone affected by a thing” and it affects two anyones. So no twin ice knife then as well?
When does a target not have total cover?
A target has total cover if it is completely concealed by an obstacle. And concealed means “To keep from being observed or discovered; hide”. So, if you can see the target (e.g. through glass) they do not have total cover. This means they can be targeted – it does not mean that they will be affected.
Can a target be targeted by a spell?
A target with total cover can’t be targeted directly by an attack or a spell, although some spells can reach such a target by including it in an area of effect. A target has total cover if it is completely concealed by an obstacle. “Concealed”? So it sounds like they’re saying they don’t have total cover if you can still see them.
Do you have to have visibility to cast a fireball?
Visibility is not required unless a specific spell requires it, all spells (including those that say “that you can see”) are stopped by total cover, including a window or wall of force. If you cast a fireball and it hits a window between the caster and the target, it explodes at the window.
