If you wear armor that you lack proficiency with, you have disadvantage on any ability check, saving throw, or attack roll that involves Strength or Dexterity, and you can’t cast spells. War Caster does not grant you proficiency with the shield, you need to pick that up from Moderately Armored feat or multiclassing.
Can you stack Shield and shield of faith?
