Jungle Temple Finder works very well on PC, but it isn’t 100% accurate on consoles, especially since TU31, where the app may find too many temples. For technical reasons, you need to know the seed of your world to use Jungle Temple Finder, unless, of course, you want to find a seed for a new world.

The temple has been around before the challenge mode update too, not sure when it was added as I bought the game at 1.2 while it was on sale. I have had the temple spawn close to the edge of the jungle before, and once near the bottom close to the underworld.
