You give your follower a set of armor and they gladly wear it. When you send them home and go back to collect them later they are wearing their default armor set. You then have to look in their inventory and take something out and put it back in for them to wear it again.
How do you get companions to wear armor?
To do this simply walk up to the companion and select the option to transfer items. Most players will simply transfer the item over thinking the companion will equip them, but instead you have to push the button displayed at the bottom that specifically makes them equip it.

But as soon as I gave her the glass chestpiece, all of her standard armor reappeared and she would still not wear it. But the more targeted removeitem did it and now she is properly shiny. So I have Lydia and I want her to wear this beautiful shiny new +20% stamina regen glass chestpiece I just found but she wont put the damn thing on.
Why does my companion not wear elven armor?
She won’t use Elven stuff because it’s weaker than her heavy type Steel armor, I guess because she’s skilled in Heavy Armor and not in Light Armor. I’ve given her Dwarven stuff and she equipped it on the spot myself.

Closed 4 years ago. For some reason, Lydia won’t wear her armor when I give it to her. I’ve tried just your basic steel stuff, Elven boots and gauntlets, and a myriad of other things and none of them equip. When I bring up her inventory, the shield, jewelry, and weapon I’ve given her has a little arrow next to it to show it’s equipped.
