The spell slots are interchangeable when you’re casting, but they recover based on their own mechanics. Unlike spell slots from multiple classes with Spellcasting, they don’t merge into one pool; they remain separate except when you’re actually casting out of them.
How do you use spell points?
You can use spell points to create one slot of each level of 6th or higher. You can’t create another slot of the same level until you finish a long rest. The number of spell points you have to spend is based on your level as a spellcaster, as shown in the Spell Points by Level table.

From a balance standpoint, spell points treads on the toes of a Sorcerer’s Flexible Spellcasting feature (meant to allow Sorcerers to trade down or trade up spell slots).
Why is Sorlock so powerful?
SorLock is really strong especially since Hexblade made the combo even stronger, but its a trade off. He gets high single target damage, but he’s a full spell level behind other casters. For instance, a straight lvl 7 Sorcerer could be Twinning Polymorph on alies to decimate just about any encounter.
