Any character who can cast raise dead or reincarnate, or even a lesser spells like revivify or cure wounds, can rescue themselves this way. A wizard can take the Magic Initiate feat to cast cure wounds. A character who becomes a vampire automatically reverts to a mist if reduced to 0 hit points, and can regenerate to full health.
Is there a way to raise the dead without resurrection?
The use is simple: Trigger is “me dying”, spell is Revivify. Other res spells have cast time of 1 hour, not 1 action (Raise Dead, Reincarnate, Resurrection and True Resurrection at least – can’t remember any other).
