- Set up the position in Arena.
- Use “Load engine…” and load the two engines.
- Do “Game” -> “Demo” or press Ctrl+D. Then the two engines will start playing each other. If you have loaded only one engine, two instances of the same engine will play each other.
Can you use engine in Lichess?
If you want to play with the assistance of an engine, then you can either create a bot account or play as a guest. I don’t see any need to introduce confusing exceptions for the use of engines.

The game is certainly a draw regardless of how either player plays (e.g. insufficient material). Both players can force a draw. Neither player can hope to win if their opponent plays perfectly. No matter which move white plays, the computer is 100% sure that black can force a draw if he wishes to.

We’re happy to announce Maia, a human-like neural network chess engine that was 100% trained on Lichess games. Maia is an engine built in the style of Leela that learns from human games instead of self-play games, with the goal of making human-like moves instead of optimal moves.

Stockfish 14’s new NNUE architecture brings even larger network files. So for the time being, client-side analysis on Lichess will keep using Stockfish 13+ (or the strongest classical version ever, Stockfish 11+, aka SF_Classical, if NNUE is turned off or not available for your browser).
