However, you would probably have to justify how you are helping. The ability check portion of the help action does not specify range, so it is likely DM dependent.

Assuming oneself is considered an ally, it appears that Masterminds can self-Help on attacks from my reading of the Help action in the PHB… But that also seems a bit weird. Alternatively, you can aid a friendly creature in attacking a creature within 5 feet of you.
