The downtime system allows characters to pursue long-term activities between game sessions. A character selects a downtime activity and pays the cost of that activity in time and money. These activities work for characters of any level.
Is Activating a magic item an action?
If the use of the item takes time before a magical effect occurs, then use activation is a standard action. If the item’s activation is subsumed in its use and takes no extra time use, activation is not an action at all. When you need to activate a magic item, most tend to be a standard action, but some are not.
How do magic items work in adventurers league?
For example, an uncommon magic item can be worth between 101 and 500 gold pieces. Consummable magic items are worth half the price of their permanent equivalent. In Adventurers League, magic items are obtained during adventures (1-3 consummables plus 1 permanent per 4 hours session in average).

If you use the action of the D&D haste spell to take the Use an Object action, that object can’t be a magic item, since Use an Object works only with nonmagical items, as clarified in the DMG.
Does using an item count as casting a spell?
While casting from an item is not the same as a Casting a Spell action, it is still casting a spell. Unless a term is given a special definition in 5e game terms, you use the common definition for that term. You are casting the spell, the ability to do so comes from the item.
How many magic items are in a tier 5e?
Xanathar’s Guide says that over 20 levels, a party will find “roughly one hundred items.” According to my calculations, the party should find 101.8 items – pretty damn close to 100. Of these, 75 will be minor items, and only 7 will be magic weapons.
