In it’s most simplified interpretation, if you’re fighting someone within the effect of a darkness spell, being blind should be an attack at disadvantage even if the target should be at advantage to hit. Someone breathing hard, grunting, armour jingling as they attack should give the target enough of a clue to juke.
Does darkness give disadvantage 5e?
Attacks into or out of Darkness without Devil’s Sight or Tremorsense or Blindsight all have disadvantage, unless there are other factors that the DM decides is appropriate to take account of. They are essentially hidden if they are in Darkness and if a creature is in Darkness then they are Blinded.
Do you have advantage in darkness?
If the enemy is in the Darkness, it is effectively blinded, so you would have advantage. If the enemy is outside of the area of darkness, it wouldn’t be blinded but if you are hidden, you have advantage.
Can a human get Darkvision 5e?
The simplest way to get darkvision via multiclassing would be, as you have stated, a one level dip in Shadow Sorcerer. A number of other classes could also provide you with Darkvision, but would all require more levels to be invested to get there.
What is Devil’s sight?
Devils’ sight is a special ability that specifically interacts with “Darkness”. It magically makes Darkness appear to be normal light. It has no stated effect on “Dim Light”, and therefore doesn’t affect how your character interacts with it. You are either in bright light, dim light, or darkness.
Can you use darkness to stop a spell?
You can also use darkness to stop spells (of 2nd level or lower) that create areas of light. Faerie fire and flaming sphere both create areas of light as part of their effects. If your sphere of darkness overlaps their area of light, the spell that made that light is dispelled.
How does fighting in an area covered by the darkness?
They cannot see the target (even if they know their location, which they do unless the target uses the Hide action), so they have Disadvantage on their Attack Rolls This is symmetric for the person inside the Darkness as well: they cannot see anyone they attack, and anyone they attack cannot see them either.
What’s the effect of the Darkness spell in combat?
You are both equally affected and can’t see each other. Which gives the attacker both advantage (because the target can’t see you) and disadvantage (because you can’t see the target), canceling each other out. So the darkness has no effect on any attack rolls for anyone inside or outside of it, except everyone has to guess where their targets are?
What’s the use of Darkness in RuneScape?
Another important use of Darkness is to prevent spellcasting that requires visible targets. The vast majority of spells, especially single-target spells, require visibility of the target in question; obscuring vision with Darkness makes such spells unusable.
