During the upgrade the collector temporarily stops producing Elixir. Once the Elixir Collector is level 5, you can temporarily boost its production with Gems or a Resource Potion. Level 1-4 Elixir Collectors cannot be boosted with Gems, but can still be boosted using a Resource Potion.
