If you try to exceed your maximum number of infusions, the oldest infusion immediately ends, and then the new infusion applies. So even at 20th level when you can sustain a total of 6 Infusions, each of those Infusions must be unique — you can’t just use Enhanced Defense 6 times, only once.
How does an artificer infuse an item?
Artificer infusions are applied to nonmagical items and turn them into magical items. At the end of a long rest, you can touch as many nonmagical items as you can apply infusions to. That gives them the infusions you want to give, but make sure they’re in your possession!
Can an item have multiple artificer infusions?
You can infuse more than one nonmagical object at the end of a long rest; the maximum number of objects appears in the Infused Items column of the Artificer table. You must touch each of the objects, and each of your infusions can be in only one object at a time.
Can you put multiple infusions on one item?
An infusion works only on a nonmagical item. Putting an infusion in an object makes it magical. You therefore can’t put a second infusion in the item; it’s now magical. “Each of your infusions can be in only one object at a time” (from the text of Infuse Item).
How long does an artificer infusion last?
You can have a number of infusions active equal to half your infusions known (2 at level 2, 3 at level 6, 4 at level 10, 5 at level 14, and 6 at level 18). These infusions last until you either die (in which case they wear off after an Intelligence Modifier number of days) or you infuse another item.
Can artificer infusions stack?
No, since an infusion makes an item magical, and can’t be put onto a magical item. No you cant. You can only infuse a non-medical item and once infused it becomes a magical item. So it would no longer be capable to receiving an additional artificer infusion due to its newly acquired magical item status.
