There are 12 classes included in the 5th edition Player’s Handbook (2014). The first new character class, the Artificer, for the 5th edition was released in Eberron: Rising from the Last War (2019) and in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything (2020).

Can you have two subclasses 5E?
A different subclass is not a new class. Per the rules, as Mellie and Bobob pointed out, this is not possible. As a DM, I would not allow multiclassing into the same class with a different sub.
