A monster’s size determines the die used to calculate its Hit Points, as shown in the Hit Dice by Size table. A monster’s Constitution modifier also affects the number of Hit Points it has. Its Constitution modifier is multiplied by the number of Hit Dice it possesses, and the result is added to its Hit Points.
How to calculate monster Hit Points dnd?
A monster’s hit points are presented both as a die expression and as an average number. For example, a monster with 2d8 hit points has 9 hit points on average (2 × 4½)….Hit Points.

What’s the difference between bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing?
That is not an example of where it matters. There is no difference between slashing, bludgeoning, and piercing here. Heavy Armor Mastery applies equally to all three. If S/P/B were merged into “physical damage,” Heavy Armor Mastery would give 3 points of DR to physical damage.
Is there a penalty for bludgeoning a monster?
Some monsters are also Vulnerable to damage (Skeletons are Vulnerable to Bludgeoning). The older editions had more monsters where it could matter. Those monsters aside, it’s flavor. D&D don’t give plate a bonus against slashing and a penalty against blunt… too much book keeping. I wish there was a blanket term for all three, though.
Are there dice rolls for bludgeoning, piercing or slashing?
In Damage type, there is a dice roll and then in all cases is a + for Bludgeoning, Piercing or Slashing depending on the weapon. For Example: Short Sword 1d6 + 3 piercing. Are these always added to the damage unless specified by a monster that has a resistance to that type of attack?

The Heavy Armor feat gives 3 points of damage resistance to piercing, bludgeoning, and slashing damage. It matters.
