The key with Sleight of Hand is it’s all about tricking others. While Deception allows you to lie well and manipulate situations verbally, Sleight of Hand allows you to manipulate situations physically. Maybe you need to subtly pocket something or get something off a person without their notice?
Is Sleight of Hand an action?
Drawing a hidden weapon is a standard action and doesn’t provoke an attack of opportunity. If you try to take something from another creature, you must make a DC 20 Sleight of Hand check to obtain it. You can also use Sleight of Hand to entertain an audience as though you were using the Perform skill.
What can Sleight of Hand do DND?
Stealth – Sleight of Hand lets you hide objects on your person or to use your hands in such a way as to not be noticed. This slightly overlaps with Stealth. Just remember that if you’re trying to be sneaky with more than just your hands, it’s Stealth.
How does stealing work in DND?
The real answer is that it depends on the circumstance and your DM, but to answer the first part: to steal something, you’d likely roll Stealth if you’re trying to hide and then Sleight of Hand to swipe it without being noticed. The Difficulty Class is usually set by the GM.
How do you improve your sleight of hand in 5E?
- Flip a table.
- Grab the item (or steal it off the enemy leader) that the party is looking for.

- Essentially you can pretty much do Sleight of Hand with advantage if you action/fast hands.
- Develop better “grenades” and throw them.
