Damage dealt while fighting is not combat damage, so abilities like first strike won’t have any effect. Fighting doesn’t cause the creatures to become tapped. Only creatures can fight. No more than two creatures can fight.
Can you activate creature abilities during combat?
Activated abilities of creatures can be used whenever you can play an instant (unless the ability explicitly states otherwise). Thus, you can sacrifice STE (or Steve) during the combat phase. You can even wait for damage to be assigned, and then sacrifice Steve.
Does fight and Deathtouch?
Yes. Deathtouch applies to all damage. First strike has no interaction with the fight mechanic; it only ever applies in combat.
Why is it important to know your combat level?
Outside of raids and using Stat Spy, combat level is the only in-game visible parameter that players have to evaluate another player. High combat levels do not always accurately describe a players’ capabilities in other skills.
What happens when a creature is instructed to fight?
701.10b If a creature instructed to fight is no longer on the battlefield or is no longer a creature, no damage is dealt. If a creature is an illegal target for a resolving spell or ability that instructs it to fight, no damage is dealt.
Can you attack monsters with a higher combat level?
Monsters with a higher combat level than a player cannot be attacked by using a left mouse click. Instead, players need to right click and select the attack monster option (you can change this setting in the Options tab).
