How do you play straight poker?
In Straight Poker each player is dealt five cards. (Five cards are also dealt in Five-Card Stud and Draw Poker while seven cards are dealt in Seven-Card Stud.) The object of any Poker game is to take the cards you are dealt and make them into the best possible card combination in an effort to beat the other players.
What happens if everyone has a straight?
A straight is any five cards in sequence, but not necessarily of the same suit. If more than one player has a straight, the straight ending in the card wins. If both straights end in a card of the same strength, the hand is tied.
What are the odds of hitting a set on the flop?
I recommend that beginners start to keep in mind the most common drawing situations: pocket pairs turning into a set and straight/flush draws. The odds are 7.5:1 for hitting a set on the flop from a pocket pair. For open-ended straights or flush draws on the flop, it’s around 2:1 to hit by the river.
Do you have to improve your hand if you’re on the flop?
No, actually. Even if there are 2 cards to come (i.e. you’re on the flop), you should still only work out the odds of improving your hand for the next card only. The reason for this is that if you work using odds for improving over two cards, you need to assume that you won’t be paying any more money on the turn to see the river.
What’s the best way to play the flop shot?
Start by opening the face so it’s pointing skyward, then take your grip. Address the ball with your feet spread apart, which will help keep your lower body quiet during the swing to reduce the risk of a mis-hit. The wide stance also lowers the shaft so the grip is closer to the ground, adding more loft to the face. Ball position matters, too.
Do you vary your speed to hit different flops?
“I vary my speed to hit different flops: faster means a higher flight.” The flop shot is all about commitment. You’ve got to trust that this big swing you’re making is not going to send the ball 50 yards over the green. That can be a challenge because the flop is so different than a normal full swing.
