Is Chogath mid viable?
Both are viable, I have a good winrate with tank top and someone else may have a really good winrate with ap mid and absolutely despice playing toplane (u/rekbeth). I would say mid is easier because your mistakes are not punished as hard, ganks are easier to avoid in midlane and matchups are generally more favorable.

You can even take advantage of his tankiness if you do so by grabbing Rod of Ages or Rylai’s Crystal Scepter. The issue here is predominantly one of range. Cho’gath’s ranged spells have a considerably shorter range than most other standard AP carries.
