Concentration. Some Spells require you to maintain Concentration in order to keep their magic active. If you lose Concentration, such a spell ends. If a spell must be maintained with Concentration, that fact appears in its Duration entry, and the spell specifies how long you can concentrate on it.
What are spellcasting classes?
Spellcasters gain an amount of spells per day they can cast at each spell level derived from their class level. A high enough ability score will also grant bonus spells to the number of spells which can be cast per day. Some equipment may also increase this number.
How do DND spell levels work?
A first level spell can be cast with ANY spell slot (though usually you would use the lowest level spell slots first). A second level spell requires spell slots of second level or higher. 3) Some spells have additional benefits when cast with a higher level slot (magic missile is one example).
Can a monster use a spell slot at a higher level?
A monster can Cast a Spell from its list at a higher level if it has the spell slot to do so. For example, a Drow Mage with the 3rd-level Lightning Bolt spell can cast it as a 5th-level spell by using one of its 5th-level Spell Slots. That leaves open to DM ruling whether spell slots are even a thing for a dragon.
Can a dragon cast a spell at its lowest level?
At first blush, casting the spell at its lowest level isn’t a restriction. Since both of those spells can be up-cast per their spell text, and the dragon can cast spells at third level based on CR/3, the dragon could cast them at up to third level. Does the DM want to treat the dragon like a Warlock?
When do you cast a spell do you spend a slot?
When a character casts a spell, he or she expends a slot of that spell’s level or higher. So to cast comprehend languages, you need to “spend” at least a first-level spell slot, but to cast hold monster you need to spend a fifth-level spell slot.
How often can you cast a spell in RuneScape?
Each spell can be cast once per day, requiring no material Components, and the spell’s level can be no higher than one-third the dragon’s Challenge rating (rounded down). Charisma Modifier: +4.
