Message. What It Means. “This is not valid housing.” The room does not meet one or more of the following requirements: Walls, Minimum Size, Background Walls, Corruption Limit. If the corruption is at fault, usually it is only a small amount and it may be too far away to be seen on the same screen as the room.
What makes housing not valid in Terraria?
The Corruption and Crimson each require a minimum of 200 relevant blocks, or a Corruption rating of 200 or more, to exist. Because of this system a House can never be valid if inside an active Corruption or Crimson biome.
What do NPC houses need in Terraria?
Housing. Each town NPC requires a suitable, vacant house. A house is a room of a certain size enclosed by a frame of blocks, with player-placed background walls, along with a valid light source, flat surface item, and comfort item. Two NPCs cannot live in the same house at the same time.
How small can a NPC house be in Terraria?
Each house has to meet certain requirements for an NPC to be able to move in, such as size, furniture, and structure. Here are the Terraria starter housing requirements you will need to meet: Must have at least 60 blocks, but less than 750. The smallest size you’re able to have is 3 blocks wide, 10 blocks high.

When does a house become invalid in hardmode?
– James Aug 20 ’15 at 22:10 From your items I can see that you’re in hardmode, a common reason for a valid housing to become invalid is because of the spreading of corruption/crimson. If a room is within ~42 blocks of corruption/crimson, that house becomes invalid housing for NPC’s.
Why are all houses in the middle not valid?
“For some reason all houses to the left and in the middle are not valid, just the ones to the right, though all of them are just the same. Anyone who knows what the reason would be?” Odds are you have the Crimson/Corruption getting to close to your housing.
Why does Terraria think this is not valid housing?
I think your problem is this (based on you saying it has a basement): If you dig into the ground at ALL and attempt to use the dirt wall as part of your wall, Terraria thinks it’s not valid housing. Take out that hammer and get rid of 100% dirt walls and replace it with whatever kind of wall you want.
Can a dungeon wall be a valid house?
Those lights won’t work for a valid house. (some lights don’t work, dunno if those do) Try regular walls and regular torches, and see if that makes a difference. Try one at a time, to find out what it was. GL! Forget the first, as apparently, since 1.0.6, dungeon walls are acceptable for “safe housing”.
