Where is the balance of harmony in Tales from the Yawning Portal?
5 The Balance of Harmony is an uncommon wondrous item from the Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan module in Tales from the Yawning Portal (p. 228). It allows one to cast the spell Detect Evil and Good as a ritual. For loot distribution purposes, I am trying to determine if it is a minor or major item.
What are the benefits of balance of harmony?
They provide a major social benefit, like detect thoughts or at-will disguise self. Balance of Harmony doesn’t provide a major combat benefit. Since the Balance only allows casting detect evil and good as a ritual, it cannot be cast in combat. Precasting it is an option, but it takes up your valuable concentration.
Are there magic items that have the same value?
The magic items of a given rarity are just too varied to say they all have the same value. It’s crazy to think that eyes of charming are worth just as much as eyes of minute seeing and that both have the same value as a wand of secrets or a mithril chain shirt or a +1 longsword.
