What to do if your Paladin falls out of character?

I read this as an out-of-character game rule: if your paladin falls, that is, your DM forces you to abandon the paladin class, 1 you are required, as a player, to choose either Oathbreaker or some new class for your character. Oathbreaker’s placement in the DMG implies that this option is explicitly available only if your DM offers it.

What happens to a paladin who does not repent?

It is stated that when a Paladin falls from grace and does not repent, they must either become an Oathbreaker or choose a new class, but what exactly happens when they fall from grace? Does the Paladin lose all of his/her powers, or does the loss from grace only mean they are abandoned by their deity or order?

How much extra damage does a Paladin get?

The extra damage is 2d8 for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d8 for each spell level higher than 1st, to a maximum of 5d8. The damage increases by 1d8 if the target is an undead or a fiend. By 3rd level, the divine magic flowing through you makes you immune to disease.

What happens when you transform a Paladin to a fighter?

If you really transform a Fallen Paladin or Fallen Ranger to a fighter of the same level then you have to adjust the experience points. Now some time later the character restores its previous state as Paladin or Ranger. You transform the character back and have to adjust XP and maybe levels.

Can a fallen paladin be a normal Ranger?

I sort of agree that a fallen Paladin or fallen Ranger shouldn’t automatically get corrupted or opposing powers to what they had as a normal Paladin, but I think as part of the possibilities of roleyplay there should be an option to receive something like that if you choose as one of those characters to embrace a new path.

What happens when you become a paladin and lose your powers?

You “lose” your powers, of course, since you are no longer a (non-Oathbreaker) paladin, but they are immediately replaced by those of Oathbreaker or your new class, as appropriate. And when you fall, you are not abandoned by your deity, so much as you have already been abandoned and that is why you have fallen.

Can a fallen paladin be revived in Bg2?

Regaining reputation won’t bring them back either, you are permanently fallen. Yup…Fallen is basically a fighter…but can’t grand mastery and takes a bit longer to level. And there’s no chances for redemption in BG1…in BG2 you get TWO..and ONLY two chances to regain your abilities. Could make for an interesting story, though.
