Yes. RAW, Evasion means a character only takes half damage, even when unconscious. The relevant part of Evasion text, that you’ve quoted says: When you are subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, you instead take no damage if you succeed on the saving throw, and only half damage if you fail.
When does evasion not allow a saving throw?
The answer is “yes” if “automatically fails a saving throw” counts as “making a saving throw”. However, people at many tables read “automatically fails a save” as “isn’t allowed to make it”. In this case, the requirement of Evasion won’t be fulfilled:
How many failed death saves can you make with evasion?
Taking any damage is always going to equate to one failed death save, whether or not it’s halved. (Critical hits would cause two failed death saves, but non-attacks such as spells and other abilities that force you to make a Dexterity save can’t be critical hits anyway.) So, Evasion will not help a character to take less failed death saves.
Is the evasion ability always on in RuneScape?
However, nothing in the ability Evasion says that it requires an action or reaction for use. So Evasion is an ‘always on’ ability.
Why is evasion limited to a certain area?
This player was using “Evasion” to avoid things such as a bone boulder rolling towards him that needed a Dex saving throw to avoid. I accepted it at the time but read up on it after and I’m not buying that it was an acceptable use. It seems to be limited to area effects:
Is there an evasion ability for toll the dead?
As Toll the Dead requires Wisdom saving throw, Evasion is not applicable in this case. Monk ability only affects area of effects. Cantrips for the most part are targeted and may bounce (have no area of effect). The Cantrips unless they have an area in the description will damage the monk even if he saves.
