Erandur is a former priest of Vaermina who is now a priest of Mara. After the quest Waking Nightmare, the option for him to become a follower becomes available, if the Dragonborn spares him, and he can be found in the Nightcaller Temple which he rededicates to Mara.

Erandur will say that there may be a way of opening it, but he would have to search for the answer in an alchemy book located in the locked Library upstairs. Luckily, he has a key—a leftover from when he was himself a Priest of Vaermina.

There, it is revealed that the Dragonborn must enter the memories of Erandur, using Vaermina’s Torpor, an alchemical draught, which reveals Erandur as a former Vaermina cultist.
How do I get Nightcaller Temple quest?
The Nightcaller Temple is found east of Dawnstar (screen above) and if you have been there, you can use fast travel. Otherwise you can follow Erandur on foot, especially that reaching the temple will only take you a couple minutes.
